diy homemade surface cleaner with castille soap & essential oils

upon reading material from scientific journals to instagram, there are many sources that talk about endocrine disruptors and how harmful they are to us. many state that these are definitely not good if you have any auto-immune diagnosis or endometriosis. now don't get me wrong, I still own many products whether it be make-up that goes directly on my skin or aerosol sprays that I inhale but I would love to be able to go completely toxin-free. this is ultimately a long way off, especially as it can be so straining on the old wallet to buy everything 'natural', 'organic' and 'eco-friendly'. this recipe is simply my starting point because that's what I intend to do. swap things out when I can find the means to do so. small changes are better than nothing and that is what I am aiming for. so if you'd like to start with me, follow the simple instructions below for a homemade surface cleaner made with natural ingredients!

smoked salmon and poached eggs on gluten free toast

ingredients list: (click to expand)

  • 1 cup liquid castille soap (mine is from ebay)

  • essential oils of your choice (I used lemon and grapefruit as they have anti-bacterial properties, I bought them from holland & barrett)

  • 4 cups distilled water (1:4 ratio of liquid castille soap to water, dependent on the size of your spray bottle)

  • amber spray bottle (the amber colour protects the essential oil, mine is part of a pack on amazon: buy here)

method:

1. if you don't have distilled water, simply boil water and let it cool before using. using the ratio of soap to water 1:4, pour the water (4 in the ratio) into the spray bottle first so it doesn't bubble too much when you add the soap

2. add the soap (1 in the ratio) followed by about 20 drops of essential oils. use whichever you prefer the smell of (I used grapefruit and lemon!)

3. screw the lid on and give the bottle a gentle shake - all ready to go!
